Call for chapters for Digital Kenya book

Editors Bitange Ndemo and Tim Weiss have launched a call for chapters for a book entitled “Digital Kenya – The new generation of entrepreneurs”, which seeks to enhance the dialogue surrounding ICT business environments and entrepreneurship in the country.

Ndemo, former permanent secretary of Kenya’s Ministry of Information and Communication, and Weiss, a German academic, say the book is strategically positioned to contribute to the international management literature on startups, tech entrepreneurship, business environments and doing business in Africa.

“Current publications tend to span the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa thereby omitting the opportunity to study one context in-depth. “Digital Kenya | The new generation of entrepreneurs” will allow an unprecedented insight into the dynamics of the most “hyped” ecosystem on the African continent. The editors aspire to establish this book as a central point of reference for Kenyans, Africans and beyond,” Ndemo and Weiss said in their call for chapters.

The pair said Kenya is seen as one of the most important gateways to other African markets, and that understanding the “dynamics and peculiarities” of Kenya’s ICT ecosystem was the first step in inspiring a series of publications in African management and business literature.

“A book created by practitioners and scholars is a unique opportunity to document past developments and give a future outlook for the generations to come,” the editors said.

The book will be composed of up to 15 chapters together with 10 profiles of entrepreneurs, with authors already confirmed including Conrad Akunge of Innova and the iHub, Erik Hersman of BRCK, Ushahidi and the iHub, Jimmy Gitonga of ArkAfrica and Mark Kaigwa of Nendo.
