Domestly launches in Johannesburg

South African find-a-cleaner app Domestly has launched operations in Johannesburg, with further roll-outs around the country planned for the coming months.

Disrupt Africa reported in October 2015 Domestly launched in Cape Town, offering a service – similar to fellow South African startup SweepSouth – connecting users with cleaning professionals via a web platform or their mobile phones.

Domestly gives consumers the freedom to choose a professional home cleaner based on their experience and recent reviews, and enables cleaners to confirm job requests and track their work schedules at the click of a button.

Less than a year after launching – with backing from local investors including Hannes van Rensburg and Ernst Hertzog – the startup has now scaled its service to parts of Johannesburg, offering services in Sandton, Fourways and Rosebank.

Launches are planned for Midrand, Pretoria and Centurion by the end of August; and the startup hopes to expand to the KwaZulu Natal province before the end of the year.

Berno Potgieter, co-founder of Domestly said he is proud of the job creation the startup has achieved over the nine months since launching.

“We have been able to create an estimated 600 new jobs and aim to increase those numbers even more in the next few months,” Potgieter said.
