ScholarX launches to connect Nigerian students with scholarships

Nigerian startup ScholarX has launched its app, designed to help Nigerian students at home and abroad access available scholarships.

The ScholarX app has both freemium and premium versions, and allows users to select parameters and scroll through lists of available scholarships that match their requirements.

Scholarships are available for undergraduate, masters and PhD students, with the startup having commenced operations in May and launched its Android app earlier this month.

Co-founder Bola Lawal told Disrupt Africa the aim is to help Nigerians gain better access to Nigeria-based scholarships, filling a huge information gap.

“There are billions of scholarship funds out there not being claimed, or having low application rates,” he said.

The self-funded ScholarX saw close to 500 downloads in its first week, and is currently focusing its marketing efforts on Nigerians studying in the West African country and internationally.

“We plan to implement the same concept in Africa, one country at a time,” said Lawal, who added that Ghana was the startup’s next likely destination.
