Applications are open to the SingularityU East Africa edition of the Global Impact Challenge, with the winner to secure a full US$35,000 scholarship to attend the SingularityU Global Solutions Programme.

The Global Impact Challenge looks for innovators and startups addressing 12 selected global challenges, and seeks “moonshot” solutions with the potential to scale and impact a billion people worldwide within 10 years.

For this year’s Challenge, the overarching focus is climate change, although the organisation is looking for innovators in all fields; rather, the theme of the prize programme – the Global Solutions Programme – will be climate change.

As such, submissions are invited from East African innovators in any technology or science discipline, working to impact the lives of people living in East Africa.

Applicants must have ideas or solutions leveraging exponential technology, and addressing a local challenge which could also be scalable for global impact.

One winning innovator or startup will be selected from the East African edition to join the 2017 Global Solutions Programme, which runs from June to August, and is held at the NASA Research Park in California.

The winner will receive a scholarship worth US$35,000, enabling him/her to participate in the nine-week immersive programme for free.

Entrants must be residents or citizens of an East African country, and must be aged over 21.

Applications are open here, until March 10.
