South African food delivery startup UCOOK has partnered social communications app WeChat to allow users to order food from UCOOK and make payments using WeChat.

Since 2016, WeChat has partnered with various South African companies, such as OrderIn, picup and FitKey, and also launched a fund for African tech startups.

Its latest partnership is with UCOOK, a fast growing e-food delivery service in Cape Town that provides fresh, gourmet food kits directly to a user’s door. Step-by-step meal preparation instructions are provided by renowned chefs, reinvigorating the dinnertime scene with less effort and more variety.

The partnership adds UCOOK to the services its users can purchase from within its ecosystem, while UCOOK will deliver boxes to such users on a one-off basis, without the startup’s original subscription element, enabling customers effortless meal purchasing.

Both companies see a shared increase in customer growth through this arrangement, which is facilitated by the WeChat wallet. The Wallet allows WeChat users a variety of safe and secure transactions or purchases using their mobile phones.

Customers can top up their wallets with a positive cash balance, send money to other users, withdraw the money from a Standard Bank ATM, and store any South African chip and pin enabled bank card for payments directly from their account using SnapScan.

New and existing UCOOK customers buying through the UCOOK official account on WeChat will receive 50 per cent off their first box.
