Applications have opened for the Botswana leg of the Seedstars World competition, with the winning startup standing the chance to earn up to US$1 million in equity investment at next year’s global final.

Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has been hosting local events across Africa this year, and has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, Angola and Morocco.

Applications have now opened for its event in Gaborone on November 3, with selected startups to pitch for a place in the global final in Switzerland. Startups applying to pitch must be less than two years old, have raised less than US$500,000 in funding, and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction.

“Seedstars World is a platform connecting investors to the next generation of startup entrepreneurs, pulling the spotlight from Silicon Valley and Western Europe. We are impressed by what we have seen in the continent so far and cannot wait to add startups from Botswana to our map,” said Anis Kallel, associate for Africa at Seedstars World.
