Nigeria’s WaraCake launches new gifting platform

Nigerian cake delivery startup WaraCake is today expanding its offering with the launch of a new online gifting platform, WaraGifts.

Launched in 2015, WaraCake is an online marketplace for independent bakers and confectionary makers, aiming to make it easier for customers to purchase their cakes and have them delivered to any location in Lagos and Abuja.

The startup raised an undisclosed amount of funding from former Jumia and Konga executive Onyeka Akumah shortly after launching; and in 2016 was selected to join the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme.

WaraCake is now expanding its service, to create a complete gifting experience for its users, via the new WaraGifts platform.

WaraGifts places emphasis on the careful selection of merchants who retail unique gift items only, and is launching today in Lagos with 150 gift options available on its platform, with plans to add more.

“The WaraGifts brand will gradually position itself as a brand delivering unique gifting experiences in Africa,” says Olatunde Ayilara, chief executive officer (CEO) of WaraCake and WaraGifts.

The new platform is launching with a view to gaining traction in the run up to the Christmas season.
