Four African startups chosen from the 40 entrepreneurs at the September DEMO Africa event in Lagos, Nigeria, pitched at the DEMO Fall event in Silicon Valley last week.

Nigerian online SME marketing platform SpacePointe, Nigerian device manufacturer Nerve Mobile, Ghanaian mobile money payroll system PaySail and Kenyan airtime service Chura all travelled to Silicon Valley to pitch at the event.

DEMO Fall describes itself as the “premier venue for launching new technology”, and involves general sessions, one-on-one demonstrations and networking. DEMO Africa, meanwhile, took place in Lagos in September, the first time the event has been held outside of Kenya.

“It is inspiring to see that, now, more attention is being accorded the pursuit of solutions to problems that are uniquely African,” said DEMO Africa executive producer Harry Hare. “The continent has one of the most diverse and talented pool of young people and finally, we are seeing a real intent by authorities to utilise the massive power within these brains to bring positive change, especially through technology.”
