Devois Arts Center, which trains young people in visual and digital arts, emerged the winner at the StartUp Cup event held in Ghana at the end of December, earning the right to go on and compete in the global competition.

Entrepreneurs from six startups gave four-minute pitches in front of a panel which included the founders of Growth Mosaic and RtHE Consult, as well as representatives from Stanford SEED and the United States Embassy in Ghana.

Lily Kudzro of Devio Arts Center won the ultimate award, with the startup rewarded for its work with Reach for Change and Tigo Ghana in training children in transformational thinking.

Med Ghana was the runner-up for its solution which provides online medical consultations to patients, allowing users to consult with a licensed doctor through secured email, live chat on the website, and book a phone appointment with a doctor.

“December 20 proved to be a great day for Ghana’s entrepreneurship scene as a panel of prestigious judges, business leaders, and members of Ghana’s startup ecosystem came together to choose the winners of the Ghana StartUp Cup 2014,” the organisers said.
