South African e-commerce startup Parcelninja, which offers cloud-based warehousing and delivery solutions to online shops, has raised ZAR20 million (US$1.7 million) in investment in order to grow its operations and increase its client base.

The investment in Parcelninja, which was founded in 2013 and launched its first commercial services in October last year, comes from C5 Holdings, the parent company  of London-based specialist data and cyber security fund manager C5 Capital.

Parcelninja founders Justin Drennan, Ryan Drennan and Terence Murphy are experienced within the South African e-commerce space, starting WantItAll, helping to grow Superbalist and partnering with Makro to handle a large part of the company’s e-commerce needs.

With Parcelninja the trio focused on becoming an e-commerce enabler, making it possible for online shops to outsource most of their ecommerce needs, with clients including Superbalist, WantItAll, Grabit, DCStore, Juniva, Action Gear, Kids Emporium and Flook.

“Ecommerce is growing in South Africa, and Parcelninja is there to assist online shopping companies by removing the most expensive and time consuming parts of the business,” said Justin Drennan.

“Parcelninja offers online shops the benefits of a large-scale ecommerce operation, which drives down costs and provides better service levels.”
