MXLab recruiting digital testers

The user experience lab, MXLab, at Nigeria’s Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) is recruiting digital testers, saying anyone that uses digital products is an ideal tester.

Speaking to Disrupt Africa, Kene Udeze, user experience lead at MXLab said the lab was launched based on the belief that many viable Nigerian digital products do not achieve global acclaim due to a lack of usability and design.

“Digital products that come out of this space (the Nigerian tech ecosystem) lack the “umph” to compete globally, and that is not always down to the quality of the idea. Most times it’s down to the usability of the solution – the app,” Udeze said.

“CcHUB launched the MXLab in February last year with the ethos of spreading the gospel of usability and user experience design. So for us these tests are a good way to make our point about the benefits of great UX.”

Given that apps or websites should be accessible to anyone, Udeze said testers at the lab need to span the full demographic spectrum.

“Anyone who uses a digital product is an ideal tester. This is because we test products that cut across different demographics thus the need for a diverse testers community,” he said.

Testers at MXLab will test mostly websites, web-based and mobile apps, and are not paid in cash, but do receive some perks, such as movie tickets, recharge card vouchers, gift cards and discount vouchers.

“Beyond this incentive the tester can take pride in knowing that their feedback will help shape the next big app – akin to Sean Parker removing “the” from “thefacebook”,” Udeze said.

Those interested in becoming testers at MXLab can apply online.
