m:lab East Africa to hold course on mobile money integration for startups

Kenyan incubator m:lab East Africa has partnered Plus People, founders of PesaPi, to run a course for startups and developers on how to integrate mobile money payments into their solutions.

The sessions, which will take place on April 25, May 2 and May 9 at m:lab East Africa, will be led by Michael Pedersen, co-founder of Plus People and lead developer of PesaPi, at the cost of KES3,000 (US$30) per participant.

“This mobile money course is targeting developers who are looking to learn how to properly integrate mobile money payments into their solutions,” m:lab East Africa said.

“The course gives the participant a solid understanding of the various mobile money account types, mainly in Kenya but also in the rest of Africa. The differences in the various mobile money middleware systems will be explained. Most importantly, a comprehensive case study of the various workflows and pitfalls of actual mobile money implementations will be explained and discussed.

By the end of the course participants will be able to explain the different mobile money services and their suitability for e-commerce, determine the advantages and disadvantages of specific mobile money middleware, construct a mobile payment flow for an online solution, highlight and discuss the potential business pitfalls in deploying mobile money, and implement a mobile money middleware in an online solution.

Participants are required to have a personal mobile money account, be proficient enough in PHP enough to build a solution, and have already having implemented one order process in a solution, without payment.

The course will end with a test, with those obtaining a minimum of 60 per cent to be issued with a certificate.
