Applications are open for South African tech entrepreneurs to participate in the Start Tel Aviv global competition, with the chance to win a place at the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival.

The Start Tel Aviv competition invites applications from entrepreneurs in 17 countries worldwide, South Africa being the only African participant in the competition.

Entrepreneurs submit a 30 second video pitch outlining their innovative business idea.  Applicants must be an early-stage startup active in the web, mobile or cyber spheres.

13 winners will be selected from around the world, with each winner receiving an all-expenses paid five-day “startup experience” in Israel.

“Imagine flying to Israel:“Startup Nation”, joining with other startups from around the world and having the chance to pitch to angel investors, get ideas and tips and mix with some of the biggest names in the hi-tech world? Well that is the exact prize we are offering!” Start Tel Aviv said.

Successful entrepreneurs will visit Israel during the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival in September, where they will be joined by Israeli entrepreneurs, stakeholders and investors in a programme of lectures and workshops. Meetings with leading Israeli investors will also be arranged, where startups will pitch for investment.

Applications can be made online, until June 12.
