Ethiopia to host National ICT Innovation Contest

Ethiopia will tomorrow (July 30) host the fourth annual National ICT Innovation Contest Award, aimed at inspiring and encouraging Ethiopian software developers and innovators.

The event is taking place through a collaboration between the ICT Centre of Excellence and ZTE Ethiopia, and will see ETB450,000 (US$22,000) given away in cash prizes. The overall winner will be rewarded with ETB75,000 (US$3,600).

ICT Centre of Excellence director Tewodros Mebratu said the contest is aimed at increasing the participation of women in the ICT sector, with the judges looking for solutions that will contribute to the Ethiopia’s socio-economic development.

Ethiopia ZTE deputy chief executive officer (CEO) Zhang Jintao said his company was honoured to partner with the ICT Centre of Excellence, adding ZTE’s participation was an extension of its commitment to Ethiopia.
