Lean Startup Machine to return to Johannesburg

The Lean Startup Machine event is to return to Johannesburg for the third time in a year on July 31, with the three-day event focused on how to discover if your product has a “profit-promising market”.

The event will see 12 entrepreneurs and thought leaders that use Lean Startup and Agile methodologies assist and guide attendees on the best ways to apply them.

It will kick off with a series of idea pitches, with attendees then organised into teams to pursue the ideas with the most votes. There will be six workshops and four speaker presentations.

Co-organiser Tefo Mohapi said the target audience ranged from MBA students to employees who have side projects but have been struggling to get them off the ground. Previous events have attracted intrapreneurs, entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts from all over South Africa.

The Lean Startup Machine event teaches entrepreneurs about “validated learning”, backed up by empirical data collected from real customers. Throughout the weekend, participants will be required to talk to real customers in order to validate or invalidate their assumptions.

Tickets are currently selling for ZAR1,500 (US$120) until July 12, after which they will cost ZAR1,800 (US$145).
