The eighth annual SA Innovation Summit gets underway today in Cape Town, bringing together South African, African and global innovators to showcase their talents, innovations and ideas.

The event at Cape Town Stadium – which consists of a two-day conference followed by a two-day Market on the Edge, aims to connect innovators from the private and public sector and encourage dealmaking.

It also looks to provide a platform where innovators can participate and grow their know-how and connections.

Speakers at the summit include Alexandra Fraser, vice chairperson of Silicon Cape, Barlow Manilal, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Technology and Innovation Agency (TIA), Maija de Rijk-Uys, head of the PwC Accelerator, Brett Commaille, lead partner at AngelHub Ventures, and Maria Pienaar, chief information officer at Cell C.

It will also feature an Inventors’ Garage and PwC Pitching Den Competition, with the 2015 theme ‘Innovation Intelligence’ looking at how new and convergent thinking helps to create a competitive edge in today’s saturated marketplace.

“The annual SA Innovation Summit promises to be an exciting awe-inspiring event, jam-packed with debates, discussions, workshops, competitions, talks, presentations and demonstrations, as well as the first ever Market on the Edge,” the organisers said.
