Cape Town startups will today compete in the local final of the global Get in the Ring competition, bidding to follow in the footsteps of GoMetro and rank highly in the worldwide competition.

Disrupt Africa reported last year South African travel startup GoMetro finished runner up at the international Get in the Ring pitching competition final held in the Netherlands.

GoMetro came second to Indonesian startup eFishery, with participants judged by a panel of four investors, as well as the voting audience.

Startups have the opportunity to match or better GoMetro’s efforts from today, when the Cape Town city final takes place. The winning startup from the event will qualify for the South African national final, which will take place on November 17-18 in Johannesburg.

Get in the Ring is a global pitch competition, which looks for the most promising startups in three different weight-classes. Startups are scored on their team, achievements, business model and market, and financials. Startups from various local, national and regional rounds compete to proceed to an international final.
