BitPesa expands to Nigeria, Uganda, launches business services

Kenyan bitcoin remittance startup BitPesa has launched its service in Nigeria and Uganda, and also added a new feature catering to businesses making bitcoin payments.

Payments can now be made to Nigeria and Uganda from anywhere in the world, making BitPesa services available to four African countries in total, the startup having initially launched in Kenya, and expanding to Tanzania in May this year.

Although BitPesa used to cater to the Ghanaian market, this country has quietly been removed from its operations.

The startup also announced the launch of BitPesa for Business, a service allowing multiple payments to be made through one transaction.

The new business offering allows users to make one payment, which BitPesa distributes to multiple payees; whether employees, suppliers or distributors.

BitPesa for Business payments can be made direct to bank accounts, or to mobile money wallets.

The bitcoin startup has been going from strength to strength, adding new features and expanding to new markets rapidly since securing a US$1.1 million funding round in January this year.
