On-demand cleaning startup Domestly walked away with the App of the Year and the Best Consumer App prizes at last week’s MTN Business App of the Year Awards.

The annual awards, which were first held in 2012, recognise excellence in mobile applications from South African companies, with startups Domestly and FitKey are among this year’s finalists after 450 applications were received.

Domestly won in two categories, taking home the overall prize of App of the Year as well as the Best Consumer App title.

The startup gives consumers the freedom to choose a professional home cleaner based on their experience and recent reviews, and enables cleaners to confirm job requests and track their work schedules at the click of a button

“We cannot begin to describe how ecstatic we are to have won the MTN App of the Year awards for 2016. The MTN App of the Year awards celebrates the out-of-the-box thinkers that drive change through real solutions that deal with real problems,” said Domestly co-founders Thatoyoana Marumo and Berno Potgieters.

Domestly claims to have created more than 600 jobs in the last nine months, and is aiming to create another 1,500 over the next year. It is currently available in Cape Town and Johannesburg North, but will be launching Pretoria, Midrand and Centurion within the next month and expanding into KwaZulu Natal before the end of the year.
