South African entrepreneurial support association SiMODISA has announced the launch of the first #VENTURETRAIN, bringing together entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and investors on a networking train ride between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

SiMODISA said the goal of the #VENTURETRAIN is to connect South Africa’s two primary entrepreneurial hubs, Cape Town and Johannesburg, by providing a unique networking and brainstorming train ride across the Karoo.

The first edition of the initiative focuses on fintech; and will feature talks from industry leaders on topics such as fintech in the global and local context, and funding fintech in South Africa, as well as fintech thought leadership panel discussions. Networking sessions will also be held.

“The upcoming #VENTURETRAIN […] will be a platform to address opportunities, challenges, highlight sector milestones and celebrate achievements,” SiMODISA said.

“The outcomes of the train are to unify a fragmented ecosystem and identify deliverables that will lead to the growth and progress of the sector.”

The train departs from Johannesburg on November 17 at 9am and arrives in Cape Town on November 18, where the trip culminates in a networking function.
