Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has opened applications for its first ever Zimbabwean leg, with 10 startups set to pitch for the chance to represent the country at the global final and possibly win up to US$1 million in equity investment.

Seedstars World has already picked winners in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, NigeriaGhanaIvory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, and holds its Senegal event today.

The event in Harare, Zimbabwe, will take place at Impact Hub Harare on October 30, with Seedstars World inviting applications from local startups that are less than two years old, have raised less than US$500,000 in funding, and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction.

“As this will be our first time ever in Harare, our excitement level and expectations are high. We have heard so much about the bustling startup ecosystem in Zimbabwe and we are now here to witness the reality,” said Selam Kebede, associate at Seedstars World.

“We are impressed by what we have seen in the continent so far and cannot wait to add Zimbabwean startups on our map.”

Impact Hub Harare co-founder Tadzoka Pswarayi said the team was excited to be hosting Seedstars World in Zimbabwe for the first time.

“This is really a great opportunity to have our local hustle on a global stage and for the hustlers themselves to learn from other innovators worldwide. It is a beautiful exchange of culture and innovation,” he said.
