Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the eight startups that will pitch at its event in Gaborone, Botswana, with the winner heading to the global final in Switzerland next year to pitch for the chance to win up to US$1 million in funding.

Seedstars World has already chosen African winners in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Algeria, and will hold its Gaborone event on Friday, November 4 at the University of Botswana.

The startups that have been selected to pitch include business-consumer interaction tool eShareCard, e-health solution COLL24, community farming platform FarmConnectar, and P2P marketplace KK.

Entrepreneurship awareness firm Cinco Minds, stock market app SeabeAPP, mobile traveller’s platform VGBots, and mobile services firm Indie Studios Africa complete the list.

The Botswana competition will be carried out with the support of local lead partner Stanbic Bank Botswana and local ambassador Thabo Theron, who is representing the initiative throughout the year.

“SMEs are a big creator of employment in many developing economies. Thus, our support of innovation through this partnership talks directly to dedication towards helping ensure further job creation,” said Onkabetse Morapedi, head of enterprise banking at Stanbic Bank Botswana.

“We are interested in helping transform ideas into realities, into real, thriving businesses. This partnership is indeed a manifestation of this as we hope to see business success stories from sole proprietors growing into multinationals and even beyond. We are committed towards making this progress real.”
