Kenyan entrepreneurs, pitch your startup from an Uber

Uber and Mettā, in conjunction with Nairobi Innovation Week, are giving Kenyan entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their startups to CEOs and investors in the back of an Uber.

#UberPITCH, powered by Mettā Nairobi, is returning next month, under the theme “Innovation to solve pressing local and global challenges”.

The top teams will be invited for a special event with some of Kenya’s leading investors and business leaders. Entrepreneurs can apply to take part by submitting a video application here by March 1.

Accepted applicants will receive an exclusive promotion code to apply to their Uber account, and will be asked to request an Uber between 10am and 3pm on March 6 using the UberPITCH option. They will then ride in the back of an Uber for 15 minutes with an investor, and have the opportunity to pitch their startup.

#UberPITCH first took place in Kenya two years ago, with house-hunting platform KejaHunt emerging the winner and earning a place in the PIVOT East workshops and KES15,000 (US$150) in Uber credits.

Uber received more than 500 requests to meet the venture capitalists riding in Ubers, which included 88mph Nairobi director Nikolai Barnwell, Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) director of business development Katie Sarro, EatOut founder Mikul Shah and Nest Africa managing partner Aaron Fu.
