Senegalese mobile payments and digital services aggregator In Touch has been named the “Jury’s Pick” at the finals of global acceleration programme BigBooster, and has also secured one of 15 places on the programme’s inaugural China-based bootcamp.

Disrupt Africa reported the international non-profit Big Booster acceleration programme targets startups in bio and health, informative tech and global impact, and looks to empower businesses to cross borders and go global.

The programme saw 92 international early-stage startups – including 16 from Africa – selected to take part in an intensive “Booster Camp”, in Lyon, France; following which 20 startups – only one from Africa – progressing to the Boston, US-based round of the programme.

The US leg of the programme has now concluded, with a final pitch event, at which three winners were crowned – all from France.

In addition, one startup was named “Jury’s Pick”, based on the criteria of impact on society, market attractiveness, the innovative nature of their business proposition, competitive position and overall quality.  Senegal’s In Touch took this prize.

15 startups to have participated on the programme were also selected to take part in the first China-based “Booster Camp”, which will be held in Shanghai and Shenzhen in September, and aim to provide startups with an immersive introduction to the Asian ecosystem.

In Touch was also one of the 15 startups selected to travel to China.
