AfriLabs annual gathering moves to Egypt

Pan-African tech hub network AfriLabs will host its annual gathering in October, with this year’s event moving to Cairo, Egypt.

The gathering will take place between October 18-20 and this year will be held in Cairo, where it will be hosted in partnership with local tech hub District. Previous editions of the gathering have been held in Accra, Ghana.

This year’s theme for the event will be “Smart Cities”, and will focus on the applications of big data and internet-of-things (IoT) to improve different aspects of daily life, such as data analytics, water and waste management, buildings and infrastructure, energy management, transportation, and cyber security.

Attendees will include members of innovation hubs, startups, government representatives and city administrations, economists and scientists.  The aim is for attendees to work together to create a vision for the next generation of African cities.

“We are extremely proud and happy that AfriLabs community voted for District and Egypt to host the AfriLabs Annual Gathering 2017. We will work with AfriLabs using our network, time and expertise to make this event one of the biggest in Africa. This year, we are targeting the theme of transforming cities in Africa to smart cities,” says Moetaz Helmy, general manager at District.

“The summit will highlight insights and business opportunities for startups to enhance African infrastructures and technologies respecting the African ecosystem and priorities; people, needs, resources, culture, and economy.”
