Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the 11 startups that will pitch at its Cape Town event this week, with selected companies to advance to the national final for a chance to attending the global US$500,000 pitch competition.

Seedstars World will hold its Cape Town event on June 8 at Workshop 17, with the top startups advancing to the South African final on June 29 in Johannesburg.

Invoiceworx, Empty Trips, CommuScore and Muzi have already been named winners of the Johannesburg pre-selection round, and will compete against startups from Cape Town for the chance to represent South Africa at the global final in Switzerland next year, where startups pitch for US$500,000 in investment.

The 11 startups selected to participate at the Seedstars World event include online rental platform Arts Alternative, e-health company Dietnostix, medical content aggregator EMG Technologies, Saas for smallholder farmers GreenFingers Mobile, and enterprise software Hi5.

The list is completed by ridesharing platform Jumpin Rides, IoT startup mbora, vertical farming company MCX Technologies, recycling startup Regenize, jobs platform Timu Trust, and contact centre solutions marketplace Yoummday.

“The talent we see in South Africa year after year is just amazing, and we are excited to be back to Cape Town for the satellite event. This year, there is a great variety of quality companies tackling real problems in new innovative ways. We might be looking at the next global Seedstars world winner!” said Claudia Makadrito, regional manager for Seedstars World Africa.
