Global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets Seedstars World has selected eight startups to pitch at its local event in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with the winning startup to head for the global final in Switzerland and the chance of winning US$500,000 in equity investment.

Seedstars World has already picked winners in Mozambique, Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia and Nigeria, and will hold its Abidjan event on September 8.

The winning startup – as selected by a panel of judges – will head to the final in Switzerland next year to pitch against other startups around the world for equity investment and other prizes.

The selected startups for the Abidjan event include on-demand craftsmen platform Agatha, African search engine Aynid, mobile payment gateway Cinetpay, and image recognition app for plants Grainotheque.

Completing the list are agricultural drone startup Wefly Agri, rubber-collecting device Young Power, connected device fixing service Zebra Mobile, and e-learning platform Educas Consulting.

Members of the public are encouraged to register to attend the event to see the eight startup pitches.
