Ghanaian startup JamJar is helping international firms launch in Africa with its online platform that connects them with events, design and PR services.
Launched in 2013, JamJar connects clients looking to launch in Africa with venues and service providers, and has already secured clients as major as Facebook, Coca Cola and Jameson.
“We spotted the need that international clients have for launching in Africa, but they have little to no trust because of the limited information about venues and suppliers available,” Frances Quarcoopome, creative director at JamJar, told Disrupt Africa.
“The competition focuses either on planning services or venue bookings, however no company brings all of these areas together for a full experience. As we were already a successful events company this expansion is only logical for us.”
The self-funded startup is still in the development stages of its online product, but has already seen good traction.
“This year alone we are on target to have a total of 60 clients, with 30 of those international clients,” Quarcoopome said.
“Most of our clients are through referrals and recommendations. Therefore with marketing and an online experience for clients the doors open up.”
JamJar is currently working only in Ghana, but plans to expand to Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and Nigeria within the next five years.
It charges commission on all bookings made through its platform, and is on target to be profitable this year.
“Our biggest challenge launching is finding the right investors that believe in the events industry and see the potential,” Quarcoopome said. “Africa is becoming more and more trendy as a meetings and events destination and we want to be at the front of that wave.”
