Senegalese startups SunuBus and CoinAfrique have collaborated with Microsoft in order to grow their businesses in the Azure cloud.
Microsoft, through its 4Afrika Initiative, has partnered with Weego, known locally as SunuBus, and CoinAfrique to offer the startups technology and business support in scaling up.
SunuBus is a collaborative transit app, designed to make travel by public transportation easier, while CoinAfrique is a free classifieds platform for new and used products.
“Microsoft 4Afrika has supported CoinAfrique in getting investment-ready for Series B funding, developing a data strategy for enhanced business insights, and scaling up to reach our goal of becoming the number one francophone classifieds marketplace,” said Matthias Papet, founder of CoinAfrique.
“Microsoft has been operating in Senegal since 2007, and has continued to invest in the country through its 4Afrika Initiative launched in 2013,” said Muhammad Nabil, partners and startups strategy lead at Microsoft 4Afrika. “We’re excited to now be working with SunuBus and CoinAfrique, two innovative startups that are using technology to add value to people’s lives.”
Over the last six months, Microsoft said its 4Afrika initiative has reached over 300 startups across Africa, with a focus on 65 next-generation unicorns, giving them access to digital tools, resources and skills. Over 500,000 African SMEs are using Microsoft cloud services.
